Zoey a/k/a Miss Piggy

Hi everyone!

I wanted to let you know that they started Zoey's feeds yesterday. That's right! Less than 24 hours after her surgery!

They started her out on 10 ml of milk. The plan was to give her two feeds of 10 ml and then, depending on how she tolerated it, increase her feeds to 20 ml and then 30 ml. Feedings, and more importantly, how they are tolerated are very important for "O" babies. If they're going to have a problem following surgery, it is usually with feeds.

Well, my little Miss Piggy has been gulping down her feeds!!! Not only that, but she's pooping and peeing afterwards which tells us that all her insides are working as they are supposed to! She is already up to 30 ml which is a LOT for a newborn. She's drinking her milk faster than I can make it!

The best part is that by drinking all her milk, Zoey has so far avoided having to have a feeding tube placed!!!

We are so thankful for another prayer answered! He continues to amaze us! He has given her such wonderful and patient nurses. His night nurse, Katherine, knew that we were hoping to avoid a feeding tube if at all possible so she very gently and patiently worked with Zoey to get her to eat her entire bottle. Zoey was still tired from the surgery and ~ahem~ has a tendenancy to do things on her own time (have no idea where she gets THAT from) so Katherine really worked so patiently with her.

I get to give her her 8:00 bottle so please pray that she eats as well for me as she did for Katherine.

I'm almost afraid to say it but....if Zoey continues to do so well, she just might be going home sooner rather than later.

Can't tell you how happy that makes us!

Love,

Alicia & Randy

P.S. Here's a picture of our little Miss Piggy. Its not very good since I took it with my cell phone. I'll send more once I can get them downloaded from my camera.
